In the event of an extreme emergency, or if you believe your baby or child is in immediate danger, please call 911, or, if you can do so safely, take your child to Children’s Hospital Emergency Room. In the event of a disaster or recommended evacuation, or if communications with our physicians are compromised, Children’s Hospital is the most reliable resource to help with emergency care for your child.
We are always “on call” for emergencies. When you need to talk to a doctor when the office is closed (before 8:30 A.M. and after 5:00 P.M.), please call the answering service at 504-465-5435 and they will relay your message. Our doctor on call will call you back, usually within 30 minutes. If your call is an emergency, please make that clear to the exchange operator so that we can return your call as soon as possible. Please have your pharmacy phone number available, in case it is needed.
Ingestions/Poisonings: If your child ingests something we encourage you to immediately call the Poison Control Hotline at 1-800-222-1222. The Poison Control Center maintains an up-to-date and comprehensive database to help manage ingestions of medicines or other substances. We are available to help if needed, but the Poison Control Center experts are your primary resource.
